I am looking for a private ballet teacher for 1 - 2 hours of work a week in the Hollywood, CA area. My front room is empty and has a hardwood floor. I also have my own barre. Last year I took 4 hours a week of classical ballet and classical Armenian dance while overseas. I would be happy to work with a beginning teacher and to recommend you to other people and to spread the word. What I am looking for is someone to lead me through a basic floor and barre warm up and then through simple exercises or choreographies. Compensation between $20 to $25 an hour depending on your experience. This would be one evening a week.
Thanks! You can also call (310) 739 1159.

I never thought I'd end up at the barre again, but I'm back in classes after about a 6 year break from ballet altogether. I'm absolutely loving it, and the instructor is a guy I used to dance with years ago, so it's sort of like "coming home again."

It's better this time because there are no performance pressures, I'm not worried about competition or going pro, and I can just enjoy the class and how it makes me feel (which is usually exhausted, but in a good way).

Anybody else give it up, only to return years later? What were your expectations? Were they met? Any suggestions?

It meets every Thursday from 10-11:30am (except for the next two Thursdays 3/17 and 3/24) and focuses on correct alignment and dancing injury free. Most of the barre and center work are very basic (though they require a knowledge of ballet) but you'll find that it's one of the best workouts because you learn to dance anatomically correct and you feel so stretched out at the end of class. Feel free to drop in and check it out. $15 a class. Class resume 3/31.

I was taking it for fun in the last four years but stopped [I used to dance when I was a kid and had missed it]. I'm thinking of taking it up again in the summer.

Aaagggg...I taught an 'advanced' ballet class tonight at a studio I'm considering working for and it was so sad...I swear it was like some of these girls had never danced before ever....I've got a lot of work to do....it just makes me so sad for these students because they have been taking classes and working for a future in dance for yrs and I'm going to have to take them back to the very beginning...learning how to pointe your feet properly, how to plie without sticking out your bum and to keep your knees straight on tendus and degages...etc.

It's like they've been wasting their time and their parents money for the past however many yrs and I just feel bad for them cause I know how much farther then have to go if they want to progress in dance at all.

ok this is just a random vent, but I just needed to get that out.

Thanks for 'listening' ;)

Howdy, I am not returning many hits online-so I come before you all today with my question of strings and silly things :) I have been taking ballet for fun for 2 years and just picked up a new pair of slippers, now my question is: What would be a disadvantage to criss crossing the elastic bands rather than simply the one across the ankle? To me it seems this would be ideal for holding the ankle snug, but if my logic were true...wouldn't everybody do this? So can anybody tell me which would be a better way of sewing on my elastics?
