criss cross?

Howdy, I am not returning many hits online-so I come before you all today with my question of strings and silly things :) I have been taking ballet for fun for 2 years and just picked up a new pair of slippers, now my question is: What would be a disadvantage to criss crossing the elastic bands rather than simply the one across the ankle? To me it seems this would be ideal for holding the ankle snug, but if my logic were true...wouldn't everybody do this? So can anybody tell me which would be a better way of sewing on my elastics?

    hey!
So to answer your question, i criss cross in regs and have a single on pointe. My reasons are that with the regs i find if attached at the right spot, it holds the shoe to my arch well when i point, hence making the foot prettier....errr, yeah. And then also i feel more secure with the criss cross. My feet feel like they are stationed in the shoe and that the sides wont billow upon releve' which in my opinion looks ugly to me.
And then on pointe, i don't like to have elastic at all, but my weird heel makes me.....really, minds of their own. My instructor doesn't like the elastics on pointe shoes though, it irritates her. I have a thing for support and tightness, so i don't listen.
Ok, so who has a text book purpose to this elastic attachment approach?
I've never been that good with the text books anyways...

      hey guys,

no text book answer here, either. I have regular slippers with the one elastic and with the criss-cross. I like the criss cross better as they feel more secure, and they just look a little nicer to me.

Yes, I like criss-crossing mine too. On my slippers...I have 2 pairs with criss-cross and a few pairs with just one accross. It depends on the shoe. As for Pointe shoes...I have a pair that I haven't been in since I was 14!! but anyway....I never sewed on on those. I don't know why but they fit me so perfect! They're "Bariyshnikov" (sp?) and still like to shove my big foot in them every now and then for memory's sake. hee hee hee

Some brands of slippers don't come with enough elastic to criss cross. It's just a style issue.

I personally like the criss cross better, it pulls in the arch nicely and keeps the shoe very secure.

I don't believe there is any sort of disadvantage to it at all. Just not always an option depending on the brand of shoe you purchase.
