Aaagggg...I taught an 'advanced' ballet class tonight at a studio I'm considering working for and it was so sad...I swear it was like some of these girls had never danced before ever....I've got a lot of work to do....it just makes me so sad for these students because they have been taking classes and working for a future in dance for yrs and I'm going to have to take them back to the very beginning...learning how to pointe your feet properly, how to plie without sticking out your bum and to keep your knees straight on tendus and degages...etc.
It's like they've been wasting their time and their parents money for the past however many yrs and I just feel bad for them cause I know how much farther then have to go if they want to progress in dance at all.
ok this is just a random vent, but I just needed to get that out.

Tue, February 24, 2004 - 5:36 AMlook at it this way....they *finally* have someone who knows better and obviously *cares* much more than previous teachers. Stead of thinking as if what you need to do is gonna hurt them, if even unintentionally, look at it as helping and having the joy of watching them grow under your nurturing as a teacher.
Vent away...its a cool bunch we got here.
We even got a crazy Fire guy that goes around throwing balloons at people ;)

Wed, February 25, 2004 - 5:42 PMI have to agree. I danced for years with many different teachers who didn't take the time to make me work out the problems, so I didn't progress and didn't know why. Then, finally, when I was 24 I found a teacher who did. In just 2 years I transformed into a better dancer than I had been for the prior 8 or 9 years worth of training. What a waste those years were! Now I'm much too old to join a company (and besides I now have a great day job). But I always wonder what would have happened if someone could have fixed me sooner. You have the opportunity to give these girls a real gift. Embrace it! -
